He was predeceased by: his parents, Anna Robinson and Matthew Benson; his sisters, Teresa McLemore and Faye Benson; and his close friend Jerome "Bud" Williams.
He is survived by: his wife Loretta Benson; his children, Rodney Benson, Mark Benson and Sada Patterson; his stepchildren, Lisa Williams, Charles Scott, Marva Carter, Sharlene Marshall and Myron Brown; his sibling's children, Vickie Colvin, Cecelia Benson, Dana Benson, Corry Benson, William Benson and Charles Garnel Johnson; his grandson Mitchell Harris; and his close friends, Peter and Cynthia Charles.
