He was predeceased by: his wife Christine Chisolm; his son Melvin D. Walker; and his parents, Daniel Chisolm and Annie Taylor Chisolm. He is survived by: his children, Darlene Avery (George), Susan Doleman, James Walker (Janet), Jeffrey Walker (Trish) and Bettina Williams; his grandchildren, Rufus Thomas Jr. and Nicoal Thomas; and his siblings, Carol Lucas (James), Daniel Taylor and Lucille Frasier. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
