He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond G. Gessner, Sr. and Avonel K. Gessner; and his daughter Pam Hemlinger. He is survived by: his wife Caroline; his brother Earl Gessner (Rose Ann); his children, Mark (Anna Maria), Todd (Chrissy), Kip (Rosa), Jill and Stacia; his stepdaughters, Elysia Andrews (John) and Andrea Morris; his grandchildren, Brandon (Lindsey), Kiley (Kaitlyn), Kelsie, Cassidy, Tanner, Forrest, Cameron (Kelsey), Connor (Carly), Scott (Erin), Bradley, Christen (Nate), Bentley (Kayla) and Raleigh (Madelyn); and his great grandchildren, Matthew, Liam, Jordan, Bailey, Wyatt, Drake, Scotlyn, William, Waelyn, Trace and Ellie.
