She was predeceased by: her parents, Blair R. Sherwood and Clara Sherwood Fitzsimmons; her sister Linda Jones; and her brother-in-law Ronald K. "Ron" Jones. She is survived by: her husband James H. Bates; her children, Gail Bates, Chris Hill (Randy Schreckengost), Jodirae Cotterman (Gary) and James Bates (Stacy); her grandchildren, Dalton Brown (Marissa), Dylan Brown (Vanessa), Dawson Brown (Kaitlin), Landon Bates, Carter Bates and Chelsey Hill; her great grandchildren, Jayden Hill, Dino, Charlie Myers and Daisy Mae Brown; and her stepsiblings, Blair Sherwood (Emily) and Arlene Pratt (Tony).

Memorial contributions can be made to the Breast Cancer Society in her memory.
