He was predeceased by : his wife Anna Louise Gertrude Hardesty; his daughter Patricia Hardesty; and his parents, Joseph W. Hardesty and Edith Alice Hardesty (Hostettler). He is survived by : his niece Catherine Butler (Stephen); his great-niece Joan Hardesty; his great-nephew Joseph R. Hardesty (Tami); his sister Edith Jeannette Fording; and his sister-in-law Jacquelyn Miller. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In Joe's memory, memorial contributions may be directed to the Audubon National Bird Sanctuary, 225 Varick St., New York, NY 10014.
