He was predeceased by: his daughter Carmen Renee Fields; his parents, Donald Cotten Sr. and Jacqueline Cotten; his siblings, Deborah Williams, Ramona Cotten, Donald A. Cotten and Vernon Cotten; and his grandson Devin Cotten.

He is survived by: his wife Willa Mae Cotten; his sisters, Jacqueline Harden (Tony) and Leslie Cotten; his children, Derrick Cotten Jr. (Latonya), Nikkey Lester and Wilhemina Cotten; his grandchildren, Derrick Cotten III, Shayla Cotten, Kenneth Clark, Darrion Gibson, Naomi Cotten, Kylon Cotten, Kamia Clark and Willis Cotten; and his friends, Bobby Robinson, Paul Morris and Paul Palmer. He is also survived by relatives and friends.
