She is survived by: her children, Angela, Melody and James; her foster son William (Bill); her grandson Salih; her brothers, James and Augustus; and her sisters-in-law, Jerlene and Margaret Bostic. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In 1968 she was selected as a Fellow in the Leadership Development Program of the Ford Foundation, an honor that reflected her exceptional leadership and dedication.
