George F. Johnson Sr. Obituary
Age 74 of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Johnson; mother, Mary Dilley; wife, Freida; and sisters, Sharon, and Alice.
He is survived by his sons, Johnny, and George, Jr.; brothers, Gilbert, and Luther; sisters, Bertha, Mary, Debbie, and Jo Ann; and grandchildren, Kenyale, Dezhaun, Johnne, Raymond, Franky, and Christopher.
My father was a man not easy to define, simply saying he was a great man is a definite understatement. He was stern yet generous. Loud but subtle. Humble and proud. Caring and forgiving, also quick to speak his mind. A hero and veteran not just to his country, but to the family that he anchored for decades. From fixing Army tanks in Vietnam, then keeping Trotwood city school buses on the road, to supervising me and the boys when we tore our cars up, the man sure knew about an engine. A sound mind who was literally prepared for everything, all the way to the end he dictated and orchestrated the legacy he would leave behind. My father was just a man, but that man was so much more.
A graveside service will military honors will be held at 11:00am on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Dayton National Cemetery. Please meet at the cemetery at 10:45am.
