He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Reed and Mildred Reed; his wife Cora Louise Reed; his daughter Sandra Downs; his grandson Joseph Jacaruso; and his sister Judith Kay Reed.

He is survived by: his children, Pamela Voelkl and James Reed Jr. (Karen); his grandchildren, Alex Reed, Jenna Reed (Charlie Holst), Marcy Reed and Daniel Downs Jr.; and his great grandchildren, Dominick Jacaruso, Oliver Reed, Ellie Jo Holst, Penelope Monet Reed, Maggie Louise Holst and Zoey Elizabeth Holst.
