He was loved and cherished by many people including: his mother Nellie Stone of Virginia; his stepfather George Edward Stone; his siblings, Willie Battle Jr., Carolyn Elaine Owings (Battle) and Charles Leon Battle; his brother-in-law William Grant Fountaine; his nephew Edward Louis Battle; his wife Odis Lee Battle (Fountaine); his son Joseph Thomas Battle Jr. (Carla); his grandchildren, Joseph Thomas Battle III (Mercedes), Michael Edward Battle (Tiffany) and Kimberly Rauwolf (Battle); his great grandchildren, Damion, Khiaya, Jaxon Rauwolf and Isabella Battle; and his siblings, Sharon Battle of Virginia, Michael Louis Stone, Otis Jr. and Alfred Henry Doris D. (Steven Louis Fountaine). He was also cherished by other relatives and friends.
