He is survived by: his parents, Creola Madden and Robert Smith, Sr. (Darlene) of Dayton, OH; his wife Monica Hill-Sumlin of Clayton, OH; his children, Rodney Carpenter of Lexington, KY, Aaron Sumlin of Atlanta, GA, Evan Sumlin of Lithonia Springs, GA and Ajay Ball of Beavercreek, OH; his mother-in-law Reba King (James) of Dayton, OH; his siblings, Sonovia Jamerson of Dayton, OH, Sharloris Coleman (Paul) of Fort Myers, FL and Robert Smith, Jr. of Tampa, FL; his siblings-in-law, Donald L. Hill of Springfield, OH and Jillian Brookshire (JD) of Dayton, OH; his aunts, Eva Sumlin of Dayton, OH and Gwendolyn Sumlin of Dayton, OH; his cousins, Kim Starks of Albuquerque, NM, Dr. Regina Gullette-Starks of Cincinnati, OH, Cassandra Starks of Dayton, OH and Dr. Marketa Wills Ababio (Jonathan) of Odessa, FL; and his close friends, Brother Roland, Dr. Augustus Eduafo and Dr. Cedrick Parks.
