He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Hammersmith and Nellie Hammersmith (Little); and his grandson Scott Hammersmith. He is survived by: his wife Joan Hammersmith; his children, Deb Gerken (Dan), Vickie Hoschak (Bob), Shellie Engel (Randy), Jamie Luna (Jesse), Lisa Puehler (Howard) and Fred Hammersmith (Sherri); and his siblings, Terry Hohenberger and Gene Hammersmith. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren.
