He was predeceased by : his parents, Joseph Willitzer and Helen Willitzer (Hart); his wife Rose Marie Reynolds; his daughter Shelley Limber; and his siblings, Helene Justus, Geraldine Font, Geneva Waldron, Joan Clark, Eileen Mack, Bob, Dick, Don and Wayne "Bud" Willitzer.

He is survived by : his children, John A. Willitzer, Jr. of Defiance, Audrey Lynn Roth (Barry) of Defiance, Mark Willitzer (Laurie) of Defiance, Sandra Hutson (Tim) of Defiance and Crystal Willitzer of Antwerp; his grandchildren, Chad, Danica, Emily, Misti, Kacey, Miles, Stetson, George, Taven and Kahlia; and his sisters-in-law, Maxine Pippin and Carol Willitzer. He is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 17th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Schaffer Funeral Home (529 Jefferson Ave, Defiance, OH 43512). A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, April 18th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the St. Mary Catholic Church (715 Jefferson Ave, Defiance, OH 43512). He was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance, an Usher and Greeter for many years and an Honor Guard for the VFW in Defiance until Covid shut down the country and he lost his strength when it opened back up.

Memorials are suggested to CHP Defiance, Ft. Defiance Humane Society, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
