It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Norma J. Barber-Hurst of Defiance, Ohio, who passed away on May 23, 2025, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Virgil Zachrich and Alma Zachrich (Fouty); her husbands, Charles Barber and David Hurst; her daughter Amy Schaffer; her siblings, Larry Zachrich, Joan Cutler and Germaine Hatfield; her brothers-in-law, Gene Cutler and Earnest "Junior" Hatfield; and her stepson Arthur Batilo.
She is survived by: her son Michael Barber (Amy) of Whitehouse, OH; her sister Barb D'Angelo (Jack) of Spokane Valley, WA; her sister-in-law Diana Zachrich of Castle Hayne, NC; her stepchildren, Fritz Hurst (Wendy) of Wilmette, IL, Monty Hurst (Rachael) of San Antonio, TX, John Hurst (Sue) of Roswell, GA and Emily Batilo; her grandchildren, Chad Font, Laura Pierce (Robbie), Sarah Font, Trevor Barber and Haley Barber; and her stepgrandchildren, Danielle Campbell, Valerie Cromwell (Jason), Rose Marie Batilo, Abigail Batilo, Charlotte Hurst (John), Jackson Hurst, Georgia Hurst, Kellie Winchester (Rob), Audrey Curran, David T. Hurst (Grace Ann), Ryan Hurst, John Michael Hurst and Samantha Hurst. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and several great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Schaffer Funeral Home (529 Jefferson Ave, Defiance, OH 43512). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, May 30th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the St. John Catholic Church (510 Jackson Ave, Defiance, OH 43512).
The family suggests memorial contributions to Saint John Evangelist Catholic Church, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Heartbeat of Toledo.
