He was predeceased by: his mother Joan Ericson Smoot. He is survived by: his father Rev. Thomas Smoot; his wife Lisa; his pet Lucky; his stepmother Dolores Smoot; his siblings, Brian Smoot (Megan), Matt Fitzgerald and Katy Smoot (Rafael); his brother-in-law Mark Cheathem (Amber); and his mother-in-law Brenda Cheathem. He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews; and three godchildren.
