He is survived by: his wife Joan Kidder Messenger; his sons, Lawrence Messenger, Jr. and Jim Messenger; and his stepdaughters, Karla Hawk, Brenda Hawk and Teresa Savin Hawk. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
