He was predeceased by: his parents, Riley Hester and Mae Hester (Wilson); his granddaughter Brienne; and his siblings, Alma Wilson, Mildred Schuster, Myrtle Mosteler, Twila Peoples, Hazel Roush, Grace Dean, Roberta Leapline, Clarence and Binum Hester.
He is survived by: his wife Denise Hester (Austin); and his children, Christina Gutcher (Don), Robert Hester, Jr. (Carol), James Hester (Brenda), Joseph Hester (Joy), Nicholas Owens (Melissa) and Christopher Owens (Dawn). He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
