He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry A. Gels and Anna Gels (Broermann); his wife Norma Gels; his son Tom Hayes; and his siblings, Eileen Bruns, Lois Ann Brunswick, Mary Lou Weis, Janice Hart, Kenneth Gels and Ralph Gels.
He is survived by: his children, Jane Mobley (Ron) of Eaton and Jeff Gels (Teresa) of Eaton; his daughter-in-law Marie Hayes of Eaton; his grandchildren, Emily Schaeffer (Kevin), Carrie Baldwin (Bryan), Erin Acton (Angus), Tommy Hayes, Jr. (Kelsey Black), Jacob Hayes (Katie) and Nikki Ivey (Aaron) of Annika Gels, J. T; and his brother Frank "Bud" Gels. He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Visitation Catholic Church (407 E Main St, Eaton, OH 45320). A burial was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Mound Hill Cemetery (130 Camden Rd, Eaton, OH 45320).
