He was predeceased by: his parents, Ray William Wheeler Sr. and Vernice "Ruth" Moody; his wife Susan Boon Short; and his siblings, Bobby, Allen, Ray and Terry.
He is survived by: his children, Wendy Dombeck (Thomas) of Rosamond, CA, Brian Wheeler (Frances) of Englewood, OH and Kristin Wheeler of Dayton, OH.; and his siblings, Sharon, Marie and Oscar. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
