He was predeceased by: his parents, James Henry Newton and Christina Harbison Newton; his aunt Jessie Harbison Sheldon; and his wife Mary Michele Newton. He is survived by: his daughters, Lydia Pritchard (Michael) and Julie Newton; the parent of his children Maranda Scott Gilbert (Mandy); his granddaughter Amelia; and his sister Pauline Fletcher (Scott). He is also survived by niece and nephew.
