He was predeceased by: his mother Bernice Oga Mattern (Ebersteiner). He is survived by: his father Thomas Lee "Tom"; his wife Karen K. Mattern (York); his sons, William "Shawn" Mattern (Bradie) and Christopher "Scott" Mattern (Amy); his grandchildren, Shyanne, Anthony and Joshua; and his brother James Mattern (Debby). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
