She was predeceased by: her parents, Daniel Maldonado and Maria Maldonado (Tamez); her former husband Eduardo A. Vasquez; and her sister Maria Erlinda "Linda" DeLaRosa. She is survived by: her spouse Governor Bob Taft of Ohio; her children, Edward Vasquez Jr., Maria Elena "Marie" Reinhart and Robert Vasquez (Kerri); her grandchildren, Joseph "Nate" Reinhart (Becky), Danielle Reinhart, Brandon (Justice), Rileigh, Evan and Cruz Vasquez; and her siblings, Otila Sanchez, Daniel Maldonado, Beatrice Gonzales and Armando Maldonado. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
