He was predeceased by : his father Robert J. Farrell; and his siblings, Pam Barto and Jeffrey Farrell. He is survived by : his wife Helen Young; his sons, James Farrell (Barbara) of Forest and Jason Farrell (Rhonda) of Pierson, Florida; his grandchildren, Jamie Rickle (Dustin), Kyle Farrell (Audrey) and Regan Farrell; his great grandchildren, Piper and Violet Rickle; and his siblings, Greg Farrell of Findlay, Penny Fruth (Joe) of Alvada and Melinda Taylor (Edward) of Findlay.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials in Jim honor may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
