She was predeceased by : her father Joseph Leland; her husband John Neff Marshall; and her brother Robert W. Hayes. She is survived by : her stepsons, David Hugh Marshall of Lake Wales and Douglas Hayes Marshall (Kevin O'Connor) of New Canaan, Connecticut.; her nephews, Grant Hayes (Jheri) of Alameda and Brad Hayes (Brenda) of Sausalito, California; and her great-nephew Drake Hayes of Alameda, California..

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Joan's name to the Humane Society and SPCA of Hancock County (Ohio) or the First Presbyterian Church of Findlay, Ohio.
