He was predeceased by : his parents, Charles Smoody and Betty Jane Smoody (Prince); and his siblings, Pamela McDougall, Kevin Smoody and David Smoody.

He is survived by : his wife Christine (Meier); his children, Anne Russell (Jason), Joshua Smoody, Elizabeth Smoody (Joel Kennen) and Rebecca Adams (Greg); and his siblings, Charles Smoody and Patricia Thompson (Frazier). He is also survived by two grandchildren and two bonus grandchildren.
