He was predeceased by: his parents, Linus R. Schalk and Berneda S. Schalk (Clouse); his wife Elizabeth A. Herb (Betty) of Mary's Catholic Church; and his siblings, Donald S. Schalk and Rose Ann Nye.
He is survived by: his children, Linda S. Schalk (Alfredo Diaz), Marcia A. Walters (Bradley), Jeffry E. Schalk (Stacy) of Herndon, VA, Sandra K. Donahoe (Christopher) and Nicholas E. Schalk (Berenice) of New Braunfels, TX; his grandchildren, Meghaan Walters, Kathryn Hensley (Sam), Andrew Walters (Adrienne Gonzalez), Joshua Schalk (Geno Salvatore), Adam Schalk (Katharine), Marian Donahoe, Aaron Donahoe (Julie), Christin Brown (Gabriel), Brian Donahoe, Kellyn Donahoe, Nicole Schalk-Virgen and Matthew Schalk-Virgen; his great grandchildren, Charli Elizabeth Hensley and Olivia Ann Walters; his son Rodolfo Solis (Karla); his grandchildren, Rodolfo José, Julian Solis, Elena Sanchez Brenes (Abraham Valerio), Lee (Raedel), Esteban (Monica), Mario Diaz (Patti), Maria Kern (Nicholas Piccuito) and Sarah Kiser (Casper); his siblings, Mary Lou and Larry; and his nephew Reverend David Schalk. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, and many, many lifelong friends.
Memorials may be made in Gene's name to St. Wendelin Catholic Church, the Greater Fostoria Community Foundation or a Charity of the donor's choice.
