He was predeceased by: his parents, Roscoe E. Ray and Dorothea Ray (Holtzman); his son Thomas R. Ray; and his siblings, Robert E. Ray (Alice), Jordan X. Ray (Nettie), Justin Y. Ray, Dorothy Edwards (Darryl) and Inez Gallager (Pat).

He is survived by: his children, John R. Ray Jr. (Loretta), Donna Scifers (Randy), Rebecca Eldridge (Mark), Doyle and Michael Ray (Vicky); and his sister-in-law Lois Ray of Plainfield, IN. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren.
