He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Jane Kanan (Gabel) and Van R. Kanan; and his brother Herman R. Kanan. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Kanan (Hardy); his children, Kandice M. Kanan of Castalia and Mathew J. Kanan (Ore) of Albany; his grandchildren, Logan, Paige and Zoe; and his siblings, Amelia Kayes of Kettering, William A. of Columbus, James E. of Fremont, Ronald C. of Colorado and Robert E. of Fremont.
