He is survived by : his wife Virginia; his children, Julie Wittenberg, Sherry Mertens, Kevin Mertens, David Wood, Liz Florentino and Audrey Wood-Shaffer; and his siblings, Alan Mertens (Maggie), Molly Mertens, Sally Monsey and Christine Mullen (Pete). He is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
