He was predeceased by: his parents, Allen E. Hurwood and Lillian Hurwood; his sister Judy; and his wife Sondra. He is survived by: his stepdaughter Cathy Withrow (Richard Withrow); his granddaughter Jalana Caughey; his great grandchildren, Colin, Bennett and LaVonne Caughey; and his sister Suzi (Lenny Kreitzberg).

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Research Association in Gilbert's memory.
