He was predeceased by: his parents, John Pennington and Beulah Pennington (Sanders); his grandson Stevie Mitchell; his great grandchild Dakotah Mitchell; his siblings, Dennis Pennington, Edna Brown, Lorraine Fields and Beulah Fouch; his daughter-in-law Lisa Pennington; and his brother-in-law Boone Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Rose Marie Pennington (Long); his children, Patrick Pennington of Lineville, Iowa, Lori Ervin (Mike) of Portsmouth, Beulah Coder (Roger) of Leesburg and Erica Miller (Greg) of Bethel; his stepchildren, Steve Mitchell of Good Hope, Bobby Johnson (JP) of Virginia, Jolynn Watters (Robert) of Washington, C. H., Melissa Cook (Kelly) of Pleasant Plain, Susan Fisher of Hillsboro and Patti Carver (Virgil) of Washington, C. H.; his sister Coletta Smith of Olive Hill, KY; Rick Donithan (Pat) of Greenfield and Carol Young of Greenfield. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.
