He was predeceased by: his parents, George J "Bill" Karnes and Jane Karnes (Junk) of Hillsboro; his former wife Mary Jane McCoy; his wife Ruth Karnes (Shafer); his son-in-law David Thorne; his niece Rosie McCoy; and his brothers-in-law, Charles Karnes and James Frost.
He is survived by: his daughters, Amanda Williamson of Wilmington, Bonnie Smith (Ronald) of Greenfield and Melissa Thorne of Greenfield; his grandchildren, Rachel Sellman (Scott), Jamie Miller (Beth), Tiffany Miller (Issac), Chad Smith (Lori), Lani Gill (Chad), Catherine Braganza (Charlton), Robert Thorne and Emma Gall (Doug); his sisters, Kay Karnes of Hillsboro and Sue Frost of Chillicothe; his stepchildren, Susan Utley, Charlotte Branscome (Ron), Debbie Christy (Terry) and Ron Shafer (Peggy); and his nephew Tom McCoy of Cedarville. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren.
