He was predeceased by: his parents, Juanita Smittle (Riley) and Carl Cecil Smittle; his in-laws, Alexander and Bettie Neff; his brother Carl Smittle; and his niece Amy Smittle.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Dianne Smittle; his children, Kim Arnott (Wes) and Tracy Szott (Greg); his grandchildren, Zack, Sam, McKenna, Regan and Rylee; his sister Cathy Clark (Smittle); and his sisters-in-law, Becky Smittle and Cheryl Everhart (Doug). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and close friends.

I couldn't have had a better person to teach and guide me during my years at Northeastern. Coach was the best offensive line and linebacker coach Northeaastern ever had.
