She was predeceased by: her parents, Wade Sansom and Ruth Virginia Sansom (Roberts); her husband Robert Lee May; and her siblings, Bobbie Jo Ratcliff and James Richard Sansom.

She is survived by: her sister Eleanor Patricia Hatfield (Phyllis); her stepdaughters, Robyn Leigh (Dave), Kimberly Ruth (Rusty), Angela Marie (Mark), Christine Noelle (Kevin), Patricia Lynn (JD) and Markita Leigh (Matt); and her grandchildren, Wade (Alyssa), Christopher, Ryan, Kaitlin (Zac), Katharine (Eli), Megan (Mitchell), Olivia, Brooke, Blake (Katie), Christian, Joshua, Micah, Dathan and Cole.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends donate to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering in Phyllis' honor.
