He is survived by: his children, James Simpson, David Simpson (Vicky) and Loretta Perry; his stepson Alfonso Smith Jr.; and his siblings, Hester Settles, Cora Adkins, Sara Burton, Bertha Simpson-Jackson, Mellie Winge, Payton Simpson, Gardener Simpson and Rufus Simpson Jr.. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.
