He was predeceased by: his parents, Ella Patton and Bratcher Patton; and his siblings, Frederick, Frank, Millard, Bob, Ruby and Eva.

He is survived by: his wife JoAnn; his brother George (Irma); his children, Crystal Harlow of Groveport, Whitney Patton (Dwayne Brown) of Alexandria and Jim (Cindy) of Willoughby; his stepdaughters, Vickie Davis (Bill) of Galloway and Kammy Staton (Bob) of Prospect; his grandchildren, Nick Meyers, Garrett Davis (Angela), Kelsey Westrick (Trey), McKenzie Davis, Sam and Isabella Brown; and his great grandchildren, McKenna Westrick and Reed Davis. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks a donation be made in Joe's name to the Motts Military Museum.
