He was predeceased by: his parents, Burl Bartram Lauter of Ironton, Ohio and Betty Frances Lauter; and his sister Kay Lauter. He is survived by: his wife Valerie Lauter; his brother Michael Lauter; his sister-in-law Nina Lauter; his sons, Ralph Roger Lauter, Jr. (Robin Lauter) and Nicolas Eugene Smyers (Christina Smyers); his niece Trisha Smyers Watson; and his grandchildren, Kaden Smyers, Tinsley Smyers, Kennedy Haney, Ava Watson, Kenny Lauter, Keaton Lauter and Evelyn Lauter.
In lieu of flowers, Roger requested that donations be made in his memory to the Cape Fear Optimist Club, a non-profit organization close to his heart.
