John W. Hakin Obituary

John W. Hakin, 65, passed away May 25, 2025, at 1:15 pm, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born September 16, 1959 in Lima, OH, to George and Elsie (LeMaster) Hakin who preceded him in death. On March 17, 2001 he married Cindi (Neeley) Hakin who survives in Jackson Center, OH.

John graduated from Shawnee High School in 1978. He was a profound fan for the Pittsburgh Steelers where he also created multiple generations in the family that twirl the Terrible Towel today. He never missed a game for his beloved Michigan Wolverines and had the pleasure of watching them win it all in 2023. John was known as a perfectionist when it came to his lawn, he took great pride in his work. He was also known as an animal lover and enjoyed the company of his dogs, Molly Mae and Maizey Blue. If you didn't find John in his yard on the weekends, he was probably enjoying one of his favorite meals at the Kewpee where his go to was a double cheeseburger plain with extra cheese and fresh hot fries.

John is survived by his wife, Cindi L. Hakin of Jackson Center, OH; children, Steven (Amber) Hakin of Largo, FL, Melissa (Scott) Carlin of Celina, OH, Ashlee Davis of Livingston, LA; grandchildren, Nora, Tessa, Camden, Brandon, Aaron, Haydan and Keller; siblings, Jerry (Rena) Hakin of Akron, OH, George (Jeannine) Hakin of Lima, OH; and brother-in-law, Denny Smith of Lima, OH.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Smith.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 4:00pm at Chiles - Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel.

Visitation will be on Monday, June 2, 2025 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Shawnee Chapel.
