He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Nelson and Helen Nelson; his brother Frank Nelson; and his grandson Ian Givens. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Nelson (Willis); and his daughters, Cathy Givens (Glen) of New Franklin and Deborah Smith (Paul) of Massillon. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
