He was predeceased by: his parents, Chauncy Long and Nellie Long (Whittington); his wife Geraldine "Geri" Long; his son Kenneth Robert Long; his grandsons, Eric Allen Curry and Brian Keith Long; his siblings, William Abraham Long, Hazel Long Bowen and Ruth Long; and his siblings-in-law, Woodrow Bowen and Mable Long.
He is survived by: his children, Gwendolyn Newhart, Patricia Dow (Ron), Emmett Long Jr. (Brenda), Rebecca Dalton (Ricie) and Phyllis Smathers (Jerry Mauler). He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
