He was predeceased by: his parents, Jason Braxton and Maude Alice Atkins (Withrow); his wife Ella Francis Atkins; his grandchildren, Dean Atkins, Tiffany Allen, Andy Starr and Joey Starr; his siblings, Ethelyn Colleen Dolph, Donald Colman Atkins, John Milton Atkins, Emel Lee Atkins, Mary Lou LaVerne and Dale Elisha Atkins; and his daughter-in-law Rhonda Atkins.
He is survived by: his children, Roger Atkins (Lori), Dexter E. Atkins, Debbie Haning and Kim Boggs (Steve); his grandchildren, Terry Atkins, Josh Atkins, Jason Atkins, Krystal Strawser, Elizabeth Atkins, Grace Atkins, Christian Boggs, Michelle Reffitt (Billy) and Michael Allen; and his sister Anna Ruth Williams. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren.
