He was predeceased by: his parents, Ned Gates and Evelyn Severns Gates Jr.; and his son Michael Anthony Gates. He is survived by: his spouse Ralphetta Joyce Cowan Gates; his children, Danny Phillips (Brenda Schauer) of Jackson, William Lloyd Gates Jr. (Gayle) of Columbus and Kathryn Wilson (Walter) of Marion; and his close friends, Ed and Linda Rowe of Jackson. He is also survived by five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
