He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Briggs and Arlene Briggs (Eberhart); and his siblings, Dean Briggs, Barbara Briggs and Norman Briggs.

He is survived by: his wife Judy Lee Newman; his children, Tina Massie (Joseph) of Ashland, Roger Briggs (Tonja) of Dallas, Georgia and Pamela Summerfield (Jerry) of Jeromesville; his grandchildren, Tara Painter (Jeremy Brant), Kyle Kitts (Cassie), Cody Summerfield (Ashleigh), Kaylea Cohran (Sean), Alexis Daye, Koryna Bomar (Jonathan), Luke Summerfield (Adrianna) and Bryar Massie; and his siblings, Jean Hall, Richard Briggs and Elaine Forbes.

Memorial contributions can be made to Jeromesville American Legion Post 749.
