He was predeceased by: his parents, Brenna Claphan (Pockett) and Roy Claphan Sr.; his wife Debra Claphan; and his sisters-in-law, Patty and Ester Claphan.

He is survived by: his brothers, Byron Albert Claphan of North Carolina and Roy Claphan of South Carolina. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
