He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Whitaker and Lillie Mae Whitaker (Haney); his brothers, Charles Whitaker Jr. and Ronald Whitaker; his sister-in-law Rebecca Whitaker; and his nephews, Rich Whitaker and Mike Whitaker.

He is survived by: his sons, Jason Whitaker (Jamie) of Kenton and Matthew Whitaker (Emily) of Hepburn; his grandsons, Mason Whitaker and Mark Whitaker; and his brother Rick Whitaker of Kenton. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
