He was predeceased by: his parents, William F. Berens and Charlotte Berens (Spires); his siblings, William Francis Berens and Kathleen Marie Wingenter; his brother-in-law Thomas C. Short; and his niece Denise Ann Berens.
He is survived by: his friend Jerilea Caten; his siblings, Carol Short, Mary Angela Berens, Constance Berens, Helen Berens, Randall Berens (Deborah), Judge Richard Berens (Rebecca) and Alan Berens (Tricia); and his sister-in-law Charlotte Paxton Berens (George Wingenter). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ben's memory to the Maywood Mission in Lancaster, Ohio or DASCO (Down's Syndrome Association of Central Ohio).
