He was predeceased by: his parents, Ethelreda Arter (Smith) and Clarence Arter; his significant other Mary Catherine Arter (Beiter); his in-laws, Wilford and Loretta Beiter; his brothers, Ronald Arter and Ray Arter; and his granddaughter Elizabeth Rose Arter.
He is survived by: his children, Michael Arter (Kristi), Jeffrey Arter (Marilyn), Steven Arter (Jennie) and Christine Arter; his grandchildren, Joshua, Ashley, Katie, Kellie (Kishen), Jacob (Ariana), Jordan, Patrick (Erin), Ryan Arter, Jessyca Vegh (Sándor), Nick Schultz (Francessca) and Kaden Sexton; his great grandchildren, William, Emma, Claire Arter, Bjørn, Boden Vegh, Laila, Ivy, Esme, Amelia Schultz, Sándor, Szófia and Søren Vegh; and his siblings, Gerald, Thomas Arter and Lois Arter. He is also survived by many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Visitation was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sheridan Funeral Home (222 S Columbus St, Lancaster, OH 43130). A vigil service was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 at 7:30 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption (132 S High St, Lancaster, OH 43130).
