He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Jefferson and Rosa "Marie" Hanning (Friel); and his siblings, Lawrence Hanning and Barbara. He is survived by: his wife Sandy Kay Hanning; his children, Rebecca Jo Kost (Mike) of Logan, Ohio and Joseph Noel Hanning Jr. (Jayeanna) of Crozet, Virginia; and his siblings, Paul Hanning of Rockbridge, Duane Hanning of Lancaster, Ohio, Dorothy Winters of Heath and Carolyn Elick of Logan, Ohio.. He is also survived by five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
