He was predeceased by: his parents, Hallie Elder and Ruth Elder (Cochran); his brother Robert H. Elder; his brother-in-law Ralph Pierce; and his great-niece Andrea LeFever.

He is survived by: his sister Doris Jean Pierce; his sibling's children, Rick Kinser (Terri), Mark Elder and Lori Williams (Brad); his great-niece Ashley Williams; his great-nephew Alex Michel; his sister-in-law Mary Jane Elder; and his cousins, Chip Elder and Bert Elder.
