He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Shaeffer and Bessie Shaeffer (Smith); his wife Ada M. Shaeffer (Wagner); his sister Gloria Grimes (Carl); and his sibling's children, Larry Grimes and Mary Grimes.

He is survived by: his sons, Ryan Shaeffer and Perry Shaeffer (Ann); and his brother Charles Wagner (Janet). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
